Before we look at jazz piano, I want to look at a piano style that was the foundation of many rock, country, blues and jazz styles.
This is the sound of New Orleans. Cities like New York, Chicago, and St. Louis each have their own musical identities. But New Orleans has the most distinctive musical identity of any American city.
Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, the Marsalis family, the Neville family, Alan Toussaint, Professor Longhair, and too many more to list here, all started in New Orleans.
